The Expedition Journal

Because the journal is now quite large, it is divided into three sections:

Expedition Preparation

Nov 22 - Dec 19

Our boat is written off a couple of weeks away from departure day, and the mad scramble ensues to find another boat. We prepare to set sail, get all our stuff together and learn to use all our new dive gear and the GPS unit.

En Route to the Aucklands

Dec 20 - Dec 30

We find out the replacement boat is not in good shape - we are plagued by a multitude of problems, including a torn sail and a failed engine. We are forced to make several unplanned stops on our way South. We spend Christmas at sea, and sail through the feared Roaring Forties.

At the Islands

Dec 31 - Jan 16

We arrive at the Islands.  We later discover our dive compressor has given up the ghost, but we have plenty of other stuff to occupy us!
